Learning whether an ad on the Internet for a work at home job is really a w-2 type income opportunity or a home based direct sales opportunity that falls under 1099 income is getting more difficult all the time. Being an either/or type of person I always start these Vs. posts and usually end more confused than I started.

Deciding whether a direct sales opportunity or a home based sales job is the right path can be difficult as it touches on our financial security nerve if we come from an either or perspective. It's common and it's nothing new, people (in general) look at sales jobs being more "safe" than "1099 type" income opportunities like a direct sales idea.

There really isn't an argument here, no battle or Vs. either. I've heard the quote that goes something like " perception is reality" and I'm fine leaving it at that. The one point I did want to make in this post is that the idea of it having to be either or is really quite silly, isn't it?

Direct Sales Opportunity and a Job?

I mean, most of the people I've worked with or met in the the direct sales industry either had a job when they started or had a spouse who had a job. After all, you gotta eat, right? I think most people starting a home based direct sales opportunity are really thinking about long term and achieving something they know a traditional path just won't create. Does that mean that people who like jobs are under achievers? No, far from it. It's been my experience that most people will work equally as hard whether they have a job or their own business. I think the different comes in the way the person feels while they are working.

There is just something about knowing you've got a shot and being your own boss or getting paid by results really cultivates that and can be inspiring. On the flip side it can really stress you out too.

I definitely think it's possible to take the best from both worlds and start a direct sales opportunity on the side. Seriously, what would your dream job be? How much could you handle, how much money would you really want to earn and how much time would you be willing to trade for that income?

That, my friend is the real question.

Find out where your at on that one. I know the answers aren't clear cut, you gotta know what you want though.

Have you ever wondered if a 100k plus work at home sales opportunity existed?

I did, so I got to know some people too, who earn this much and more.

Here is what I learned:

If you want to make multiple six figures per year say 200k to 400k and up from home with an unconventional cash generating business you would find a business in the direct sales industry that has a component of network marketing built in. This is the business model you see advertised online when you read head lines like "Six figures First Year Opportunity"....

There are some legacy mlm- er's that earn big cash too. Amway has something like 7,000 people in their organization that earn over 500k per year.

The "new" way these incomes are being created is usually with a business model that has 2 or 4 products that range from 2k to 15k. The last products are also called back end products. The basic idea is that same people who buy the first product will then buy the later products, it's basically just an up sell. The thing is these high earning entrepreneurs market the products and the business opportunity as one and try to connect with people who want to earn a significant income working from home, like 100k and up.

So, that is the basic out line of these direct sales home based opportunities. They do work, but not for everyone. I've seen some income disclosures and it works out to about 11% of the people with anyone of these opportunities earns revenues of over 250k, I have no clue what is spent on marketing and other expenses and each opportunity is different so don't think I'm saying they all carry these statistics because they probably don't.

Ask good questions if your looking to start one of these direct sales business opportunities from home. It's that simple, ask questions like:

What do I need to Invest.
How much time will I need to commit each day.
How long, in your opinion, will it take to be profitable.
How will I generate leads.
How exactly will I make money, what will I be doing every day?

The 25 highest paid professions fall into five categories:

Online advertising sales is much different than the advertising sales position of pre-2000. To present a marketable option for online exposure seekers, brush up on the search engines and talk to prospective clients or employers about what you can do. With a good understanding of advertising you still have value to ad to the marketplace.

Answering the Tough Interview Question.

Job interviews can be right ignorant, no. Have you even been asked one of those assigning questions like... Joe, tell me why I should hire you instead of someone else?

Why should I hire you instead of someone else?

Try.... You shouldn't do anything you rum dum... Your the one who has the facts,information, and a fit in mind for the position your hiring for. You know the company culture and whether or not you already have some riff with me or not... You have a good idea right now whether I'd be an asset to this company or not. I want to be an asset and don't care about "getting" this job. If me at this company is a win - win, then I'm in, if not I'm out.

How about where would you like to be in five years?

This question is designed to see if you are a fit based on your expectations. The guy across the desk knows what you will be making in five years. You don't and probably have your immediate needs in mind. Oh by the way, the guy across the desk dosen't care where you want to be, he is a "hero" if your still with the company. He cares about himself, just like you care about yourself.

Answering the where do you want to be in five years question.

Try this on for an answer. I don't think in terms of destination. I figure if I do my best, work hard, learn and find a situation where I can add value through my creativity and efforts, I'll be right where I'm supposed to be in five years. If your question is about being goal oriented (it is) or to dicern whether I am motivated. I am, I also know that my associations and work envirionment have a huge impact on my success, that is why, I wanted an interview with this company. Companies move forward in the market place because they have people who value that. I want to look back in five years and see progress. The place I work plays a big part in that... do you feel like you have made personal progress in this company?

Working around smart, motivated and people of integrity is an environment that will foster your progress. Period. Smart, motivated people appreciate insightful, honest people, be one.

Here is my take on job interviews, I've conducted hundred, trained three or four people to conduct them for the company, and think my insight is credible.

Be your self.
Forget about Getting.
Be an equal.
Don't act.
Have the mind set of detachment.
Be briefly polite to everyone you encounter.
Transfer a positive feeling.
Be positive. Not optimistic.

I think jobs suck. But if I was going to apply for one I would treat it as a possibility. I would "be open" and recognize real connections. When I found a connection, I would talk about that. I'm not interested in a script, and wouldn't follow along. I'd tell stories that related to questions.

I would want to work in a real environment. That is me. I'd be myself and if I got hired I could continue to be myself. That is tops on the list. Manipulating life and work is unhealthy and all to common in my opinion. The average job last 3.4 years because of all the education you've received about interviewing.

It's funny how there

is so much different stuff, isn't it.

Without comparing, we really

do have many options don't we.

I have found that we "humans"

seem to.... instead of choosing

new or different, choose variations of the same.

Self doubt... could be on reason for this. Lack of confidence maybe....I don't know....Maybe habit?

A friend of mine sold cars for a car

lot in a town 12 miles from here for

around 3 years.... He was doing well,

I promote a simple direct sales model business with a developed back end marketing process that operates mostly without my involvement. I can only work with people who are serious about earning a significant income, are coachable, and have had success already and know they want a better way.

I've built a high revenue/ income businesses in the traditional business world. It was what it was. The bottom line was that in order to earn 250k per year in that business model I had to work more hours than I wanted, be exposed to way more liability than I wanted, experience more stress than I wanted, and.... Here is the point..... In order to do it again next year... I had to do the exact same thing again. I might as well have been working at a sales jobs.

Had a great weekend, and its Monday again. I 'm down at the university library looking around and thought it would be good to write a post.

I like the high ceilings here, at the library I mean. I new there was something about this place I really liked besides the books and stuff. Its the ceilings, yep, or lack of them. On the main vestibule the ceiling, which is glass is around 80' up, I don't really notice it.

My home business has the same element to it as well. I know, we have all heard something like this before. "There really is no ceiling here if you motivated" here are some points many sales manager's might not mention.

So they stay stuck in the planning phase. This person would find a better approach to be breaking the objective into a couple smaller parts. When one part is accomplished they could move on to the next. Realize conditions are never ever perfect. Creating a success just does not and will not work that way. Put a time frame on it and get going.

The Third person knows what they want and they have devised a plan but somewhere along the way they just loose their motivation and don't take the required action. Here is an idea for this problem, Keep the objective in the forefront of your mind and make sure it is compelling to you. Plan to reward yourself with something motivates you when you reach success.

The fourth person may encounter some resistance and many times this can be a flaw in the plan. Trying and failing at one approach over and over is not going to get the job done. Stop and take a look at the new circumstances and tweak the plan a bit. Nothing is set in stone. Just because the approach you had choosen did not pan out does not mean your doomed forever. Come up with a better way and get moving.

The fifth person is the one who has not realized the power of persistence. Persistence is almost alway's require when we want to achieve success in any area. Persist until you achieve the result your after of until a better approach is more obvious. This one trait alone is responsible for the fast majority of true accomplishments or successes.

Getting the results your after in prospecting is 100% achievable. Assumming you want to find people who are ready for what it is that your offering and are looking for a contact point. Be a sorter, not a seller. No reason to feed any one a line of bull.

Talking with a prospect or a potential home based business partner dosen't have to be all that difficult. make sure they understand the reasons why it may be good for them to get started or purchase a product or service from you but leave the hype in the yard.

I find that most of the people I talk with are looking to have something they have never had.
The one thing to keep in mind: If you want something you have never had you need to do something you have never done. Simple enough right?

I let them know I'm not offering a free ride or a lottery ticket. I'm not offering a job. What I am offering is an opportunity to build a significant income in the next six to twelve months. You need to have 2-4 hours a day. You must be able to follow a simple system, exactly! Or whatever is important for them to succeed.

I like to come right out and say to them "You must be ready for success, meaning you need to know that your worth it". You may be surprised, many people really don't. And I am not equiped to get people to the place where they can accept success.

Let them know its an opportunity to be in business for yourself but not by yourself if you provide training or coaching. Knowing they will have daily access to people using the exact same system that you will show them can comfort them in an uncomfortable time. Let them know people are using the same simple system to create wonderful lives for themselves and amazing incomes also.

You should have a long term incentive to see to it that you help them reach their financial goals. I love to help people anyway and this works out great, Probably one of the reasons I love the work at home industry so much.

I do keep it pretty simple. I'm not going to spend my time selling or telling or explaining my business. I use a simple system that does that for me. Here is an overview of a system that you might use to help leverage your time. Many companies have a system that is similar.I will write this from the perspective of you explaining the system to your prospect.

Step One: You respond to an ad that I have placed. This could be one of my websites, via the contact form. I like this way best. Also you may respond to a newspaper ad.

Step Two: I receive an e-mail informing me that you would like me to contact you to further discuss the possibility of working together.

Step Three: I call you and have a brief conversation, usually 3-5 minutes. I find out a little about you, and you a little about me. Provided you qualify for my time and the business seems to be a possible match, I then get you the details of the business. All the nuts and bolts. How we make money. Exactly what you would be doing. The info on the three products.Things like that.

Step four: We re-connect and decide whether or not you are ready to move forward. Also at this time we can have a productive conversation and answer questions. After you review the information I forward you, you will have specific questions. And you will also have a good idea whether this is a vehicle that you can use to create a life changing income or not.

Its really pretty simple. Notice: I have spent a minimal amount of my personal time (3-5 minutes) with a person until they qualify for my time. Not being rude here. Chances are if we decide in the interview that this may be a match for them. Then, they review the info and get some questions answered. Then they qualify. I'm not into talking people into getting started with me. And I don't.

What I do is help people, who have made an informed business decision, move forward. I immediately start with you training, get you started, and provide daily support.
I just tell my prospects if they feel that they are encountering hype at any point, call me on it. You have my permission.
