Advertising sales jobs are making a slow transition to online sales jobs. With google and the other major search engines using ad revenues for a good share of their income the move to online advertising is pretty clear.

Advertising jobs online won't be in as much demand as they were found to be in traditional advertising such as newspapers, telephone books, and magazine print advertising. Why, you might ask?

Advertising on the three major search engines allows even a small budget add buyer an affordable way to reach wide and widening audience, but here is the catch....

Really, they aren't. Go to google AdWords and see how simple it is to set up an account. It took me less than 10 minutes two years ago to set up a simple online advertising campaign for one of my main websites. It didn't cost much either.

So what can an advertising sales positions seeker do about it? Well, don't get me wrong, there are still opportunities to sell advertising online, but with many entrepreneurs wearing the ad man hat along with the SEO hat and the SEM hat, the advertising positions are hard to come by.

The best, or one of the best, avenues to take is not real surprising. Go with the flow. Get educated on AdWords, and the yahoo, and msn networks. Learn about online advertising and get a feel for the holes in the marketplace. Trust me there are many. Many small to medium companies are hiring SEM managers.

Online advertising sales is much different than the advertising sales position of pre-2000. To present a marketable option for online exposure seekers, brush up on the search engines and talk to prospective clients or employers about what you can do. With a good understanding of advertising you still have value to ad to the marketplace.
